Aspherical lenses
Aspherical lenses have a complex curved surface which is neither flat not spherical. They are able to correct the spherical aberration and distortion of spherical lenses.
In the past, a number of spherical lenses would be combined together to reduce aberration, but miniaturization and lightweighting was difficult and expensive because the brighter the lens, the more lenses were required to adjust the aberration. With aspherical lenses, fewer lenses are required because they do not cause aberration, which enables miniaturization, lightweighting and cost reductions.
